Holt Monument Works has been a family owned and operated business for more than 125 years. We are one of the oldest businesses in Greene County. Holt Monument Works began operations in Bloomfield in 1935, first on north Judge Street and later at the current location, 220 W. Main St., since 1957. There have been Holts responsible for making monuments in Greene County since the days Edgar C. Holt was setting monuments in the Flynn Cemetery near Hobbieville in 1896. There is evidence that Edgar Holt’s father was doing work in the field earlier than that although how much earlier is difficult to say. Edgar Holt was a blacksmith and a gunsmith in Hobbieville, Indiana.

Edgar and his son, Lowell, brought the business to Bloomfield in 1935. Lowell assumed total responsibility for operations in 1951. When preparing to move to the current location, Lowell and his son, Joe David, traveled throughout the country, visiting various facilities to find the latest design for their new building. For many years, Lowell’s wife Virgie worked at the monument shop after she had finished teaching for the day at the Bloomfield elementary school. With her retirement she took an even more active role in helping to run the business. After both Virgie and Lowell had passed away the Holt family sold the business to Robin and Cheryl Ammon who continued to uphold the reputation the company has for quality craftsmanship and integrity. After Robin & Cheryl retired in 2024 they sold the business to Lowell & Virgie’s granddaughter Alicia Holt, her husband Austin Harrah and Josh and Alysia McIntosh.

Josh who previously worked at Crane Naval Base brings his artistic talent and attention to detail to assist families with the memorial design and manufacturing process all of which continues to be done here onsite in Bloomfield, Indiana

Josh has stepped into the shoes of the designers, draftsmen and sandblast technicians for which previously Lexie Carmichael, Don Adcock and Robin Ammon had achieved recognition in the industry. And Alicia, remembering her grandparents Lowell and Virgie, takes pride in returning to the family business.

Our family continues to be here to help your family to honor loved ones with personalized art in stone.
